Metallic OOTD

August 26, 2018

Hey Loves!

Silver metallic has been a big hit since the 70s, from the disco dancers with the disco balls also matching their outfits. Movies like the “Saturday night fever”, “Disco fever”, “Disco Godfather & Hairspray” to name a few were filled with the glitter and vibrancy of all types of metallics. Yes, I really loved those disco moves but I wasn’t even born yet 😂.

Fast forward to the early 2000s till date the metallic has made a gradual come back. In 2000, silver but especially gold, were a must-have on catwalks of famous designers and in spring/summer 2009, shimmering shades of gold and bronzes decorated many fashion shows. Metallic color has turned every piece into a dazzling style statement.

Most women fear that wearing a metallic outfit would make them look like their straight out of a 70s disco movie or a John Travolta prodigy 😂, but there are ways to avoid such mishaps (not that there is anything wrong with the outfits in the 70s or 80s, I still love them)

Metallic reflects light and wearing it as a dress or a blouse can enhance facial imperfections. In order not to take away from that, it’s advisable to wear either a blouse or a dress with metallic detailing, so as not to end up looking like you have on a reflective mirror.

I decided to pair this silver metallic skirt with a plain buttoned up white shirt that isn’t shimmering, to ease the already reflective skirt.

Tip 2:

While choosing a metallic color as an #ootd, pick only one metallic piece (either the skirt of a dress) whilst keeping everything else minimal

Avoid looking like a disco ball:

What I mean by that is, while wearing a metallic dress/outfit, do not go for an all-metallic look with shiny shoes and all. It is too risky so that’s why I decided to pair the classic mule for a classy clean look.

Tip 4:

I’m not a makeup artist or an expert in that field, but do not overdo your makeup with a metallic outfit, you don’t want to overdo your makeup when you already have a lot going on. A simple make up or Smokey eyes will do.

Don’t be out here looking like this....

 Tip 5:

The right accessories can also make or break an outfit. Try to keep accessories to the minimal, since metallics offer a significant shine on their own.
